A homemade version of classic Spaghetti O's made with tender ring pasta, tomato sauce, cream, and cheese. An easy, comforting meal that's a healthier alternative to the canned version.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 8 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup water or chicken broth
  • ¼ cup cream half-and-half, or milk
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese or Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup small ring pasta such as Anellini or Ditalini

Instructions

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the tomato paste, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce and water or chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  • Stir in the honey or sugar and the dry, uncooked pasta.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes, or until the pasta is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent the pasta from sticking.
  • Stir in the cream, half-and-half, or milk and the shredded cheese. Continue stirring until the cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth.
  • Serve hot.

Notes

For a more filling meal, add precooked mini meatballs or sliced hot dogs.
