Chicken Wings Sauce – Spicy Apricot

Spicy Apricot Chicken Wings combine the sweetness of apricot preserves with savory Worcestershire and soy sauces, Dijon mustard, and a blend of spices. Brown sugar adds richness, while cayenne pepper, black pepper, garlic, paprika, and ginger give the sauce a warm, spicy kick.

These wings offer a delicious balance of sweet, smoky, and spicy flavors. Prepare the wings using our Basic Chicken Wings recipe, then coat them with the Spicy Apricot sauce. If you’re grilling, a little wood smoke adds another layer of flavor. Serve with extra sauce prepared separately for dipping or drizzling.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt Optional
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger

Optional for Grilling

  • ½ cup hickory apple, or apricot wood chips

Instructions

  • Prepare the chicken wings using the Basic Chicken Wings recipe and your preferred cooking method.
  • While the wings cook, combine the apricot preserves, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, kosher salt (if using), black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, and ground ginger in a bowl. Mix thoroughly.
  • Transfer half of the sauce to a separate clean bowl before it comes into contact with the cooked wings. Set aside for serving.
  • When the wings are cooked through, toss them with the remaining sauce until evenly coated.
  • If desired, return the sauced wings to the grill or place them under the broiler briefly to help the glaze set. Watch carefully to prevent the sugars from burning.
  • Serve with the reserved sauce.

Notes

For a smoky flavor when grilling, use the wood chips according to your grill manufacturer’s instructions. Never reuse sauce that has touched raw chicken as a finishing sauce unless it has been thoroughly cooked first.
